Name all 52 states in the USA.

One of the hardest things to remember but should be burned inside your head (more importantly if you are an American) are the 50 united states of America. There are a lot and to know each one by heart is a challenge. If you want to know how I learned all 50 of them then it’s your lucky day as I’ve decided to share what I did to get them permanently etched in my noggin.
First off, I’d like to say that I use my own mnemonic device. Mnemonic devices aid you in remembering something through key phrases that may be visual, kinesthetic and auditory. Personally I think this is best way too get something memorized as it caters specifically to every person using it. Let us divide the 50 states into 4 groups of 13. The first 13, easy enough are the first original colonies that fought against the British crown. No need for much key wording, they are as follows: Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina and Rhode Island. Now we only have 39 left! Each state for me has a specific symbol.
Vermont for example reminds me of Ben & Jerry’s since it’s the largest employer there. Next to it is Kentucky which brings to mind the KFC fast food chains. Tennessee is equal to Elvis Presley and so on. My mnemonic device for the 2nd batch of 13 states (Vermont, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Louisiana, Indiana, Mississippi, Illinois, Alabama, Maine, Missouri, Arkansas and Michigan) is Ben & Jerry went to KFC with Elvis Presley, said O-hi-o to Louise and Ana… So do you get the clear picture now? Only 26 states left and there’s no ending the fun here!
The 3rd batch of states is Florida, Texas, Iowa, Wisconsin, California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas, West Virginia, Nevada, Nebraska, Colorado and North Dakota. For this you can say that your grandmother lives in Florida and her favorite movie is the Texas chainsaw massacre. No matter how hilarious it sounds, it’s going to help you a lot. Only 13 states left and there are still tons of mnemonic stories you and I can make up. Just make sure for your last batch, include South Dakota, Montana, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska, and Hawaii.
Others may think there are more then 50 states- 57, or the famous number 52, but you should recheck that belief.

52 states?
I think Sam needs a refresher course in American History.
ReplyWashington D.C. and Puerto Rico are not states.
To the writer of this article. There are still 50 states. Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico are not states. Where did you go to school.
Reply52?????????? Doesn’t our current president think there are 57??? Crazy and sad
ReplyI like to remember the states as if they are on a map. Start with the east coast, Maine and work your way down to Florida and then continue going up and down until you get to the Pacific. Easy. Right!
Replyif your going to list dc & puerto rico, you cant forget guam, american samoa, midway island, canal zone, virgin islands and the northen mariana islands
ReplyWhere did HE go to school? Where did YOU go to school? The author says quite clearly there are 50 states. Maybe you should read articles instead of guessing what they’re about from the title.
ReplyIt WAS stupid to title this article, “Name at 52 States…” if the author believes (correctly) that there are only 50. But almost more importantly, what does the word “THEN” mean? It means something happened next. It is not the same as THAN, which compares things. And I don’t know anyone who thinks there are MORE THEN 50 states. Or if they do, they hide it, because that’s just stupid.
Replykeep quoting these dead white guys for a reason. We seem to be repeating some particularly nasty history, right now.
