Social drinking has been done by both the elite and working people for many years. Whether it is gathering with friends after work for a drink or going out on the town for a blow out football party, alcohol is an intricate part of socializing all over the world.

For those who entertain a lot, having a bar in their home is a common fixture. However, for those who have a problem with alcohol, it can be a temptation that he or she cannot pass up. Once he or she starts drinking, it cannot be controlled or stopped until he or she passes out. For millions of people, this is they way they live.

Alcohol addiction is very common today. With all the stress that the world hands out today, many cannot cope without taking a drink. There are hundreds of thousands of people who cannot control their drinking, they become belligerent, resentful and often make complete fools of themselves.

The end results are they find themselves excluded from many functions because of the way they act.

There is no such thing as a ‘happy drunk’. Everyone has his or her limits and when you pass that point, the inevitable happens. Bad judgment calls are often the first sign that you have had too much to drink, the problem being that you don’t recognize it until you have sobered up and then you don’t want to face your friends and family. When this happens over and over again, there is a problem.

Many alcoholics will deny that they have a problem. They blame everyone else in their lives and drink to forget their problems. It is a vicious circle that is hard, sometimes impossible to fix. However there is help available but it has to be the decision of the person drinking. They have to want the help. Only when they have reached rock bottom, will they reach out for the help they so desperately need.

There are organizations all over the country that assist those with alcohol addiction to overcome their problem and to live an alcohol free life. Rehab centers and AA are there to offer support for those who feel they are in danger of slipping back into their old habits. There is no cure for alcoholism. You cannot kick the addiction and think that it’s ok to have just one drink. Once an alcoholic always and alcoholic.

AA has helped literally billions of people kick their alcohol addiction and remain sober. They are able to accomplish this by offering many different services and their world-renowned twelve-step program. Many people scoff at it however with this program, billions of people have been able to find the strength to stop drinking, save their families and their lives.

Alcoholism is a serious disease, over time; it can affect every organ in your body. There are higher rates of cancer, liver and kidney disease and heart disease.
It is important to know that there is help available when you decide to quit drinking. Doing it on your own can be done, however there is a higher risk of falling back to drinking when times get tough.
