The earliest theatres originated in England in the 1500’s when Elizabethan acting troupes were formed. Admission was one penny, which patrons simply dropped into a box on their way in and plays were performed in an outdoor amphitheatre that could seat as many as three thousand people. The most famous of these is The Globe Theatre where Shakespeare first had his plays performed. The original theatre was destroyed in 1644 to make room for tenements. Today, the London theatre tickets district includes St. Martin’s Theatre where Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap” has been playing since 1952. This is the world’s longest-running play of any kind. Tickets start at 20 pounds or about $28.50 U.S. Buy tickets on Ticketmaster.com, the #1 ticketing portal on the web.
