Travel Compression Socks–a GOOD Idea

Travel compression socks are not a common purchase but in some cases they should be.
When you plan on traveling for long distances, particularly if you choose to go by car, travel compression socks are going to assist the venous return from your legs, and keep your circulation flowing in the right direction.

Sitting in a car, especially if you don’t take frequent breaks can be problematic, causing pooling of the blood in the lower extremities.
The travel compression socks are, for the most part, the same thing that you used to be given in some cases after surgery, when your surgery necessitated that you remain in bed for more than a day.

Travel compression socks can help to prevent DVT (deep vein thrombosis) which is a condition that can create havoc with your vacation time, believe me.

DVT is a blood clot, one that takes place deep inside the vein.
If the clot breaks away, or even a piece of it does, it can and sometimes does travel to a major organ that can cause some very serious health ramifications.
Medical personnel estimate that about ten percent of flyers who go long distances develop a blood clot without even knowing it.

Most will dissolve with no further incident, but some will create potentially deadly health issues.
People Magazine, in their March issue of 2005 said that every year, there are literally thousands of deaths from blood clots.
If you can minimize your risks by the purchase of a simple pair of stockings, I certainly think that it is worth our time to do so.
Travel compression socks are, or can be.. more than just for comforts sake. If you fly or travel long distances, buy they for your own good health.
