What is the award-winning singer-actress Jennifer Hudson doing now? Well, a few years ago, no one including her expected Jennifer to be achieving the success she is now currently enjoying.

Jennifer Hudson came a long way from her hometown roots of Chicago. She had totally no formal musical training but she ventured into acting and singing in cruise ships as a means of living…well, before she made it to American Idol. Landing in the top 12 on the third season of American Idol catapulted Jennifer Hudson into the national limelight. Others thought her stint in American Idol was the end of her journey; after all, she finished a mere seventh place and even most of the show’s grand winners enjoy fleeting success. But in fact, American Idol was only the beginning of her triumphs.

Many believed like many American Idol winners, Jennifer Hudson would simply be listed of as another forgotten name whose musical success finished with the season itself. For more than a year, these doubters seemed right until in November 2005, Jennifer Hudson landed a role in the movie “Dreamgirls” (beating American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino for the job.) “Dreamgirls” went on to become a major hit and Jennifer Hudson would not go unnoticed.
For her role as “Effie White” in the movie “Dreamgirls”, Jennifer Hudson grabbed 29 film awards including a Golden Globe and the much-coveted Oscar award for Best Supporting Actress. She earned the rare distinction of grabbing an Oscar in her debut performance. Many would think her success would be limited to the movie industry but they were once again mistaken.

On 2008, Jennifer Hudson released an R&B album which was self-titled. Several singles from this album made it to the Billboard Top 100. Her album would later go on to win the music industry’s equivalent of the Oscar award, the Grammy award.
Jennifer Hudson has become so successful that even a day has been named after her (Chicago celebrates Jennifer Hudson Day on March 6). But Jennifer’s success has not come without personal tragedy. On October of 2009, Jennifer’s mother, brother and nephew were murdered in a very disturbing crime.

Jennifer Hudson has since bounced back from the tragedy. After coming back with a Super Bowl performance, she is delivering her amazing performances once again. She is engaged to David Otunga and even reportedly pregnant although recently, she has denied the rumour.
